F2P in SWTOR

Well, I've been in the world of Star Wars for a couple of weeks now, as a pure f2p player, I hesitate to say that lest I incur the wroth of subscribers who may or may not view me as a sand person.

Just wanted to chime in on my own blog first because this might end up being a wall of text, of course which fourm browers hate to see.

So far, loving the game. Period. Met good people, had AMAZING fun doing a Flashpoint, most fun I've had in an mmo in a log time. So community, thumbs up.

The game itself, storyline, combat and group dynamics graphics (can't comment on graphics too much as not on my 'super comp' yet) all great and very enjoyable.

The limitations of being f2p. Yeah, this part sucks, but then I'm not paying a dime so who am to whinge? But then compared to Lotro's f2p model, this one really sucks.

Frankly the f2p + item store is the thing to do for mmos. Rumor has it Lotro's revenues tripled. Play base has increased and no, the quailty of the communtiy has not degraded. No. The sky did not fall. Yet with this supposed influx of cash, the game lags like a sloth in slow motion.

From the current restrictions why would I spend $5 to upgrade to preferred status? Preferred status gives be one extra hotbar...good, but $5, no extra character slots (I heard that might be changing, if I heard right it's from 2 to 6, if so...I'm spending money) Flashpoint, Warzone entry is the same, races the same (no biggie for me, I only play humans anyway) So basically for me. Nothing. Just Cartel coins to buy things. Like, hide my helmet....ya right. Just make a hellova ugly character and boom, no problem, those scars are permanelty covered over.

Who/chat functions. Who gives a shit. If there is will there is 1. A guild and 2. Ventrilo. Fin. Oh, and type /cjoin Ooc and this whole chat function crap is made redundant. Look, if it's an mmo, why take away the ability to socialize? Nuts.

Can't wear purple gear. Not a biggie until endgame, and that's redundant.

Update:
Well, there have been a few changes to preferred status after the update, which has caused me to plonk down some money. 6 characters, 4 quickbars, and that's worth it!

All in all, really enjoying the game and hope Swtor can mimick lotro's f2p model a bit more...cause it's a good one :p
